Past Events of 2008

Well it has been a busy year so far with Hemp Fabric UK being out and about across Devon on various occasions. Check below for more details of where we have been and what we have done, they look above for future events for your chance to meet us as see the work we do:-

NOVEMBER
10th & 11th November - North Devon Business Showcase

12th November - Merry Harriers Networking Group

21st November - North Devon Business Awards

OCTOBER
7th October - RITE Conference, London. We are very excited to have won a place at the most important sustainable textile conference held in the UK. This was a fantastic event, a must for anyone interested in natural textiles, see http://www.ritegroup.org

21st October - Women In Business Conference, Ilminster, Somerset
Very informative conference for all women in the area.
30th October - Start-Ups Award Luncheon - London
Samantha Pickering- owner of Hemp Fabric UK was nominated as a finalist in the "Adversity Award" It was great that my balance between my work and family commitments which are not always easy are being recognised in this way. http://www.startupsawards.co.uk/

AUGUST
Tapley Park

JULY
19th July - Saturday, Pilton Green Man Festival, 10am till 5pm.
This event gets bigger and busier every year, but is so fun and friendly we will definatly be back next year.

12th & 13th July - Save our World Festival, Tapley Park, near Instow, Devon - Initially a cold weekend but this improved as did the attendance figures. It was wonderful to be back at Tapley Park and a joy for my family to be there. Great music and lots of enquiries.

7th July 2008, Grow & Grow Seminar,Weirmarsh Farm Restaurant, Umberleigh,North Devon EX37 9BE
This was a great evening event. The night was started by introductions and then a talk by me about my own experience of running a successful business while juggling a growing family. This sparked some wonderful discussions about the possitive and sometimes negative experiences people have had while running their businesses and ended with some nice contact groups made. I look forward to the next event.

21st June - Science Day at Tapley Park, near Instow, Devon
Than you to Bideford College for running this informative day. Fun was had by all as well as learning about science in action.

18th June - HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards 20008 Networking Night, City Museum & Art Gallery, Bristol
- YIPEE im a regional finalist and im now into the National competition. Fingers crossed :). I am amazed to have got this far
as this is one of the biggest business competitions in the UK.

6th June, The Palace Hotel. Torquay - FSB Devon Business Awards 2008
This was a great night out meeting lots of other business people. Unfortunatly we did not win in either of the categories we had got to this stage on, but the competition was very tough. It was just great to have to to that stage.

29th March 2008 - Sustainablility Fortnight Programme,- Barnstaple Libary - Samantha was there helping out Mrs Recycle with her fabric reusable bag making event. Although no hemp was used on the day, Samantha showed her sewing skills to parents who wanted to learn how to make bags for there shopping etc. May children also maked or decorated cloth bags including three of Samantha's children.

17th May 2008 - Woolsery - Renewable Energy Day - This was a smaller event but full of so many people who were all determined to make a change to help the environment. I even met up with Mukti and had an enjoyable lunch discussing the environment and the impact of the fashion industry on it.

16th March 2008 - Discovery Day - Milkway - Great day, very informative event that told everyone who attended alot about North Devon, it,s historial past and its developing future. We demonstrate the numberous links Hemp has to this region and received 100% support for our plans to re establish a hemp textiles crop in this region.

18th Febuary 2008 - Barnstaple Green Day
It was a cold day but full of energy and useful facts to help save or improve our environment, with small steps we can all manage.
Thank you to all of those that spent time talking to us about hemp fabrics, and hemp in general. We hope you have been inspired to look into hemp a bit more.
